SmashPad Streamkend with Nintendo Land/New Super Mario Bros. U – January 5 at 3 PM EST

If you checked out last week’s New Year’s Stream, I talked at length about wanting to purchase a Wii U the following day with the recent influx of holiday cash that I had received, but a rather nasty snow storm earlier that day lead me to just stay home to enjoy the time off. Those plans to pick up Nintendo’s new console were pushed until Saturday when I could stop by the local GameStop on the way home to grab a Deluxe unit with New Super Mario Bros. U, which seemed like the perfect storm of what to do for this weekend’s SmashPad Streamkend.
I’m pushing back the usual start of SmashPad Streamkend to 3 PM EST today because picking up the Wii U and running an additional errand or two will require a bit of extra time beyond what I usually need on Saturdays and I’d also like to get as much of the system set-up done before the start of the stream. The only concern I have about getting the system up and running before the stream starts concerns the big firmware update that was released on launch to add all of the online features, which was a notoriously long download that I’m hoping won’t be a huge issue for the stream. Nevertheless, today will be a fun day to see how Nintendo’s new system works as they join the HD revolution while adding this really interesting new controller into the mix.
