Destination Arcade Only Available During Summer of Arcade

Microsoft announced last week that Destination Arcade would be released for everyone in the US to download when Summer of Arcade started next week, but Major Nelson has announced today that it would only be available to until Summer of Arcade ends on August 18. We really don’t understand this either.

Destination Arcade is the newest app for the Xbox 360 dashboard that was supposed to make the growing library of Xbox Live Arcade games a lot easier to sort through for the best games that you should purchase. The app allows you to sort through the entire library by price, community rating, Deals of the Week, and it even offers the ability to see how your friends have rated those games. The only downside is that these kinds of features should’ve been in the revamped marketplace when the New Xbox Experience launched in the fall of 2008.

Rather than offering Destination Arcade for everyone to download and use like the many apps that are littered all over the dashboard or even making it the standard for navigating the marketplace like the Zune Marketplace, they’re killing the app before it’s even available by only offering it for a limited time and only to people in the US. Those of you in the US can get this limited edition app on Wednesday, July 21 to see if Microsoft is pulling the app for a reason. If you have a particularly good idea for why this is happening, let us know in the comments to help us understand what is going on.
