E3 2010 Preview- Heroes On The Move (PS3)

During the heyday of the PS2’s success, no companies dominated the mainstream market more than Insomniac (Ratchet and Clank, Resistance), Naughty Dog (Jak and Daxter, Uncharted) and Sucker Punch (Sly Cooper, Infamous).  While those companies now have a much bigger impact on the PS3, the nostalgia deriving from the characters these companies created back on the PS2 has not been forgotten and there will probably never be a greater collection of iconic cartoonish characters for any system ever again.

Heroes on the Move has all three of the main stars; Ratchet, Jak and Sly Cooper, teaming up to stop an unbeknownst enemy duo.  But because each hero always needs help to vanquish foes, you will find yourself also teamed up with Clank, Daxter and Bentley respectively from each series.   While Ratchet and Clank still see a steady interest and popularity in today’s gaming market, Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper have all but disappeared as of late.  Heroes on the Move is a good chance for old fans to walk in their favorite character’s shoes again while new fans can come to enjoy just what made these three series so popular back on the PS2.

While the idea of teaming up with all six characters at once is very intriguing, perhaps the most enlightening aspect of the game is how the new Playstation Move controller will be implemented.  While the obvious fighting mechanic is natural, such as using the controller to swing Ratchet’s wrench or make Jak punch, figuring out how other character abilities, such as Daxter’s fast-moving punch attacks or Sly Cooper’s sneaky shadow attacks will fit with the Playstation Move aesthetic.

For those gamers who happened to miss out on these classic titles, do yourself a favor and pick them up now as they happen to be some of the most entertaining and enjoyable action/adventure series in the past decade.  The Sly Cooper series is being released later this year with the same treatment God of War received last year with upgraded HD visuals and packed together in one solid collection.  You simply could not ask for a better deal.

Expect Heroes on the Move to release sometime in 2011 for the PS3.
