Preview: Final Fight Double Impact (Xbox 360, Playstation 3)
April 8th, 2010 | Written by Filippo Dinolfo | Topic: PlayStation 3, Previews, Xbox 360Capcom has a long list of great arcade games under their belt. From 1943 to Street Fighter II, they’ve been a large player in the arcade and video game industry. With that depth to their catalog to work with, it should come as no surprise that Capcom is releasing many of their arcade hits for the home consoles. Final Fight Double Impact is the latest of their downloadable offerings and it brings together two of Capcom’s more popular titles: Final Fight and Magic Sword.
Final Fight Double Impact does some very interesting things in terms of its presentation. You’re greeted with a view of the arcade cabinet set in an appropriately themed locale. When you start up a game, it will play on the cabinet’s monitor, complete with bezel, scanlines, and rounded edges. It’s a very neat effect. If you don’t like that though, you can opt for a more traditional no frills display.
The arcade emulation seems to be spot on accurate as far as these two games go. The original Capcom Play System music is in tact and available for you to switch to. By default the games use a remastered soundtrack which doesn’t sound too bad, but really, if you played these games in the arcade you’ll likely want to use the original music.
Both games feature online cooperative multiplayer. You can start a game and then someone can jump in and help out, just like in the arcades. Online performance seems to be pretty good for the most part, but we’ll go a bit deeper on that in the full review.

Finally, the games all have a number of challenges to complete for each level in addition to the Playstation Trophies. Completing these challenges will unlock artwork in the game’s Vault mode.
It’s looking good for Final Fight Double Impact. Maybe Capcom will consider doing more of these combination packs. We’ll have a full review next week when the game is made available for download.
