Almost anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock this past year knows of Modern Warfare 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2007’s highest-selling game of the year.  With an estimated one million pre-orders already tabulated and game companies pushing back games into next year to avoid releasing alongside the newest Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 2 is a force to be reckoned with.  With the newest trailer being released on Sunday night, Modern Warfare 2 looks to be more explosive and personal than its predecessor.  Could Modern Warfare 2 possibly be better than Call of Duty 4 and become one of the most popular games in history?  Continue reading on for analysis of the trailer and check it out yourselves at GameTrailers.

The first thing we noticed right off the bat from the new “Infamy” trailer is the high production values.  Although most of the scenes depicted throughout the trailer are obvious cutscenes, the facial expressions, attention to detail on all the vehicles and weapons, and the explosions are look incredibly lifelike and already look twice as good as Call of Duty 4.  The story also seems to be a bit more personal this time, with soldiers fighting on American soil in Washington DC.  As viewed in the later parts of the trailer, there seems to be one giant battle that tumultuously ends with soldiers running up to a burning White House.  Scenes of battles also taking place in Middle East territories, prisons, and even some Asian countries take Modern Warfare 2 into territories the series has not seen yet.

It is also very poetic the way the game blends together the Biblical tale of Cain and Able to represent the killing of brothers all around the world during war.  If a trailer can be this dramatic and express this much creativity, the sky is the limit to just how deep and reflective the actual story in Modern Warfare 2 will be.  With one of the most shocking, twist moments in any game of recent years, Call of Duty 4’s character deaths really had you on the edge of your seat wondering just if the main star, the guy you have been controlling throughout the entire game, really died after that impactful nuclear explosion.   A moment that will be remembered in gaming lore for years to come and it looks as if Modern Warfare 2 is etching to make equally memorable moments as well.

Besides looking to adhere to the combat that makes the series well known, plenty of new elements were seen in the trailer that should make Modern Warfare 2 much more than a standard, updated sequel.  For starters one scene showed a soldier base jumping off a bridge.  There is no word if this scene can actually be controlled by the player or if it has any impact on the actual story, but it does leave our minds buzzing imagining the possibilities.  Also the introduction of “bouncing betties,” the famous bouncing landmines that were introduced in World at War, make their appearance as well about halfway through the trailer.  Other intense sequences, such as a river raft shootout inside a cave, gunfire and explosions outside the Washington Monument and helicopters constantly crashing to the ground, Modern Warfare 2 looks to be packed with more adrenaline-filled moments than you can count.

Modern Warfare 2 is set to become one of the most popular games on this generation and if the latest trailer is any indication, fans are surely going to be excited for what this latest installment has to offer.  We have not even grazed the surface of the latest things Modern Warfare 2 brings to the table (throwing knives, the ability to migrate to a new host if the original leaves a game, kill streaks that award bad and good players alike) and surely we have not heard the last either as the game still has a full month before its release.  Modern Warfare 2 hits stores on November 10 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
