Gamer 2.0′s Most Anticipated Games at E3

e3

E3 is right around the corner, and we here at Gamer 2.0 are each excited about all of the new content that will be shown at the annual show. I asked the editors what they were most excited to see at E3 and their responses are below.

“This year at E3, there are a few things that I’m really hoping to see. First off I’m a huge fan of Forza Motorsport, so I’m really looking forward to learning more about this game. It may be the biggest racing game on the Xbox 360, both in physical size and scope, so it’ll be nice to see what Turn 10 can do now that they know more about the 360. I can’t mention Forza Motorsport without also immediately thinking about Gran Turismo 5. I want to see the game, lots of it. More importantly, I’d love to find out that both games are coming this year. Hopefully at least one of them will.  Nintendo may have a lot of stuff to show this year. Last year’s keynote was informative, although parts of it were quite annoying. I was disappointed to see that Star Fox was not announced for the Wii. I’m hopeful that this year we’ll see them announce that game. Nintendo has had a pretty good record with bringing their franchises to the Wii, so I’m hopeful that this won’t be the exception. All in all, it should be a good show, and there will no doubt be a few surprises that come to light.”

“RealTime Worlds’ All Points Bulletin is definitely near the top of my most anticipated list. Since the title has been relatively quiet since its announcement shortly after Crackdown’s release, we couldn’t be sure it would show up this year until it was recently confirmed. If they can really deliver a MMO where skill has more weight in leveling up than simple grinding, I think a whole new (huge) audience will be attracted to it. I’m also holding out the unlikely hope that we’ll see Bungie Studios announce their next project. Since they’ve decided to take a break with the Halo trilogy and are finishing up ODST, it’s high time the public was let in on their next big project. And what better time and place to do that than E3?”

“Bioshock and Assassin’s Creed were my two favorite games of 2007, so naturally I am overly excited to see and hear more about their upcoming sequels. With both games looking even better than their predecessors, it will be exciting to see what else the developers have in store come E3 (perhaps a playable demo?!) and even see a glance at the new Bioshock 2 multiplayer. I am also very excited to see what Naughty Dog and Insomniac have in store as well, and hopefully give us fans more footage of their new games. By the way, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is looking to become the top game of the show this year, which would be quite a feat considering all the high quality titles that will surely be present.  I am really hoping Ubisoft finally shows some footage of Splinter Cell: Conviction as well. Sam Fisher is too popular of a character and Splinter Cell has too many followers for this game not to be shown at yet another E3. Of course I am always looking forward to the surprise announcements, and I am sure Microsoft or Nintendo will announce a reboot of a past hit that will surely please many fans. Here’s hoping for an Earthbound remake!”

“I’m really looking forward to seeing more of my most anticipated games at this year’s E3. Though Uncharted 2’s multiplayer has been the focus of its attention so far, I want to see more of the single-player outside of the war-torn city level that Naughty Dog has only shown until now. I also want to see what Insomniac has up its sleeves for Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, which they have been awfully quiet on after the initial announcement a few months ago. The other big game I want to know more about on the Sony side is PixelJunk 1-4, mostly for what the final name is and when it will be released. I’m also interested in seeing that new PSP since my PSP-1000 is beat up and I could use any good excuse to upgrade to a truly portable PSP.  I’m hoping that Nintendo has more to show off from their own teams besides the new pie charts that let them gloat for at least 15 minutes or so during their presentation. I need the new Pikmin to be announced and the forgotten Kirby game to finally surface to salvage the Wii portion of the show for me. Because of the vacuum of information about the second half showing for Microsoft in 2009, I have no idea what to expect from them at E3. I’m looking forward to more info on third-party games like Assassin’s Creed 2, Split Second, Dirt 2, and Muramasa.”

“While there definitely is a universal need for some unique content, I’ll have a sigh of relief if Square Enix announces a DS remake of Final Fantasy V. Why? Well, to tell the truth, I think it’s one of the most underrated entries in the series. Okay, fine. I’ll be honest. If they remake V, it means they’ll have to remake VI—which is thought of by many to be high point in the series.

(And that can also indirectly mean that a remake of VII will be done in the future… just not on a Nintendo system.)”
