Ditch the Guitar, Jump on the Turntable

News arose a few days ago that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick informally announced a new music based game called DJ Hero, to ride the success of the company’s Guitar Hero franchise.
“We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you actually can play competitively and spin discs and mix songs,” said Kotick.
It’s no surprise that Activision is whoring out its franchise, because as sad as the news may be for some, that’s just good business. This game will sell just like Paris Hilton’s sex tape: because of the notoriety of the subject’s name despite the questionable quality within.
Activision may not like that statement, but their public relations department all but ignores us anyway so odds are they won’t see it. Plus, it’s not blind bashing, but rather based on the fact that according to internet speculation, the game is being developed by B-Boy developer FreeStyle Games.
DJ Hero is said to support two control styles: the Guitar Hero guitar and the a turntable controller with a scratch platter, three buttons for sampling, a cross-fader and a sound-effects dial. No one has any idea where the guitar comes into play.
Another quote of Kotick jabs me the wrong way:
”So there’s definitely some physical interface that is starting to have an impact on the consumer.”
Wrong. Peripherals will die again just like they did in the 90′s, or at least I hope so.
