The 2D Is Coming Back for Your Ass!

My headline is purposefully juvenile in order to juxtapose the sometimes excessively verbose nature of the prose penned by our own Jacob Stustman. How’s that for a mouthful? I hope you graduated high school.

Regardless, his article entitled, “The Resurgence of 2D Gaming” is a hell of a good read. I know, I know, technically I have to say that right? I mean, I do run the site. Well, I would actually tell you if something we published wasn’t good. For instance…

I’m sorry, I just can’t. Everything we’ve published has been good, otherwise we wouldn’t publish it. Anyway, we hope you enjoy the article. Here’s a quick quote from the piece:

As videogame machines look to the future, download services, portable systems, and indie PC developers are beginning to look back, wringing out new gameplay mechanics from the old 2D framework. Since much of the current incarnation of 2D exists as cloak and dagger, clandestine in old marketplaces and small corners of the internet, developers are focusing less on sequels and more on outputting a greater creative quotient. If 2D gaming isn’t big business anymore, then developers will have a greater license to impose their particular vision, and it’s much cheaper than modeling a standard 3D world. This is a win/win for fans of 2D.
