Nonsense: ‘Everyone Will Have 360′s and PS3′s’

dizzy

There’s a lot of nonsensical drivel on the Internet in regards to the goings-on in the gaming world. The daily PS3 doomsday articles – and those familiar with me may accuse me of the same, but I ask you to read through what I’ve said more carefully – the top 10 cereal mascots that should have their own videogames (wtf?), and now this from Blorge.com.

Stewing over his frustration over the ridiculousness of fanboyism, Mike Ferro writes that eventually it won’t matter which system is ‘better’ than another and gamers will have picnics together in the park. You will find them next to the “Pro-Life & Pro-Choice Peace Cookout.” Here’s a snippet with more comments after the jump.:

Since both consoles basically cater to the same audience, I believe that eventually both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will reach parity with each other in the US in terms of sales. Once both systems have equal number of units sold in the US, maybe there will be peace and love on both sides as they give proper credit and respect to the console exclusive games that deserve it.

The fact that both systems cater to the same audience is the precise reason why most people won’t have both consoles. It’s correct that with the number of exclusives going multiplatform this generation – Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto (simultaneous release), Final Fantasy (also simultaneous), Tekken, etc – there are fewer and fewer reasons to show allegiance to any one console since you can get some of the best games on either one.

It’s incorrect that this will cause people to buy both consoles. Sure, really hardcore gamers will, but even people who really follow games may not take that financial plunge. If you could get essentially the same games on both consoles, that means you are more likely to stick to one. There will be downsides to that obviously, such as Xbox 360 owners not being able to play Killzone 2 or PS3 owners not able to play Mass Effect, but it is unlikely that you would choose to buy another system for a few hundred bucks just for a couple of games.

For example, I had no idea just how into gaming my uncle was until I went back home to visit my parents over the holidays and saw him. As a member of the gaming press I thought I would put him on to some things he didn’t know about, but surprisingly he knew about most of the things I brought to his attention. He had just purchased a PS3 a few months back and loved it. So he’s a big time gamer – but not necessarily hardcore as he doesn’t engage in online discussions  and such – with a lot of expendable income, but he has no interest in getting an Xbox 360. He’s disappointed that he really won’t have a chance to play Mass Effect, Gears, or Fable, but he can make peace with that because it just isn’t worth the money to drop another $200 to $300 for yet another game console for a handful of games.

Now that I’ve dealt with the issue of PS3 & 360 owners, one last thought in regards to fanboys. Fanboys will NEVER go away. Most of them are teenagers who are extremely hardcore gamers without the expendable income needed to own both consoles. Admittedly, I was kind of a PlayStation fanboy as a teenager – though when I criticize Sony’s business decisions I’m somehow an Xbox fanboy – and I moved past that stage. Fanboys eventually grow up and get past their fanboyism, but there are plenty of youngin’s ready to take the reigns.

Haha, funniest sentence I have read in a long time!
Just to point it out, PS3 owners do get to play Mass Effect, the glory of the PC right? I know, bad argument, but still true. For Fable 2 and Gears 2, they are the two games I want to play, okey three, those two and Lost Oddyssey. But as your uncle said, not worth using that much money for two or three games.
