List of 2008′s Most Rented Games Lacks PS3 Titles?

blockbuster

Honestly, this one just doesn’t make any sense. Rentrak Corporation, the top national rental tracking service, has just released its list of the 10 most rented videogames of 2008. The list goes as such.

RENTRAK’S MOST RENTED GAMES OF 2008

1. Grand Theft Auto IV / Xbox 360 / Rockstar Games
2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare / Xbox 360 / Activision *
3. Halo 3 / Xbox 360 / Microsoft *

4. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 / Xbox 360 / Ubisoft
5. Army of Two / Xbox 360 / Electronic Arts
6. Mario Kart Wii / Wii / Nintendo
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl / Wii / Nintendo
8. Fallout 3 / Xbox 360 / Bethesda
9. Assassin’s Creed / Xbox 360 / Ubisoft *
10. Mario Party 8 / Wii / Nintendo *

While I’ve been critical of the PS3 business, it’s still selling pretty damn well. So how are there no PS3 games on this list? Nothing? Not even Metal Gear Solid 4? It honestly just sounds nonsensical. No PS3 games could out-rent 4 games from 2007 (note the asterisks)? Really?

Does anyone have an answer for this? And please try to avoid the standard “Because the PS3 Sucks!” rhetoric.

  1. It seems that all of my local Blockbuster stores have a very limited supply of PS3 titles. Plus most of their multiplatform games only come in 360 form, and never have the PS3 counterparts. Although I dont know if this is all Blockbusters

  2. I knew Microsoft was in bed with Blockbuster :-P

  3. Then I ask, who isn't Microsoft in bed with these days?

I'm going for the clasic fanboy answer this time:
"PS3 games are to good to just be rented"

  4. This is possible, but Blockbuster has been in decline ever since Netflix came along

  5. Hahaha, nice.

  6. That’s a bit unfair for ps3, that’s for sure…

  7. That's a bit unfair for ps3 though…
