What The G.E.C.K. Means To Fallout 3

In addition to the 3 dowloadable content packs for PC and Xbox 360 announced in November, Bethesda also announced The G.E.C.K (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), an official game editor for the PC that is free to download starting today.
For me, the arrival of The G.E.C.K is both exciting and disappointing. It’s exciting because while the official DLC releases are sure to be high quality additions in classic Bethesda style, there is an incredible amount of potential for the community to create a steady stream of quality additions to the game. While Bethesda is limited by team size, resources, and pressure to create new games, the community can continue to breathe life into Fallout 3 long after the official development team has moved on.
The disappointing part of the G.E.C.K. is that it’s for the PC only. I count myself as one of the 4.7 million people who purchased Fallout 3 for the Xbox 360 during the release week, and it’s sad to know that I will be missing out on all the great community generated content.
I’m sure the process is complicated, but it would be a smart move for Bethesda to find a way to make the best community content available for the 360 and PS3 as well. If that means having the in-house teams polish the content and having to charge for it, I think that the community will understand.

Actually according to the official release, none of this content was planned for the PS3 at all. I don't understand the move, but I'm guessing that it might have something to do with the complexities of programming and/or a possible way to deliver the content.

I dunno… many games allow user generated content and a lot of them tend to suck. While the official levels and add-ons often get a lot of testing, the homebrew stuff is often unbalanced. I'm trying to think of a user generated add on for any game that was remarkable and I can't…
Sony allow user generated content? Right, like that would happen… Although I bitch, I'm going back to play Superstardust Portable now…
