Web Watch #2: 50 Comments

By now we’ve probably all heard of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, “Fiddy’s” – see: comment #1 – journey through the Middle East to recover a bejeweled skull that is owed to him after getting stiffed for payment for a G-Unit concert. Yes, that’s right. It’s almost as ridiculous as what Scientologists believe. Almost:

See? Anyway, welcome to Web Watch #2. Web Watch is a feature here at SmashPad where we highlight some of the best comments from around the web about a variety of gaming related topics, whether they be insightful, hilarious, or ridiculous. Last time around we highlighted some great comments about the Dead Rising lawsuit, and this time we focus on what gamers think of 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand.

Warning: Because it’s about a game that crosses cultural divides, there may be some off-color remarks. We tried to keep it out though.

In response to IGN’s hands-on preview:

“That’ so cute how you guys quoted one of the lyrics in his songs and calling him Mr. Cent and Fiddy! Hee Hee! (vomits from the poor writing…)” The-A-Man

“i wanna play this, i do get sick of the cliche wackness i have to read when something has to do with a rapper, especially one like 50. white people get into “hip hop conversation mode” and things get awkward. slang from the 90s pops up.” Franksausage

“It has a cover system? If his face is any indication, I don’t think “Fiddy” uses cover much.” BluLupus

“Whats next, Soulja Boy: Back to China, Lil Wayne: Ace Attorney, T.I: The P.I.?” Puklop
Editor’s note: A Soulja Boy game was just announced today.

“Sometimes I think it would be cool to work for a video game mag or website, but then I remember someone gets stuck playing this for hours to review it and such…” beWAREbigD94

From GameSpot’s hands-on preview:

“Why do they even bother strapping a story onto these games? It may as well be called “50 Cent: Shoot Bad Guys.” The story? 50 cent wants to shoot bad guys (or at least guys he considers to be bad). Makes more sense than getting pissed about the skull of bling.” Mercypoo

“50 and the G-Unit crew in the middle east..taking down armies of heavily armed terrorists??? Atleast make it something realistic, like 50 cent Vs. the cast of Suite Life of Zack & Cody…that might be a fair fight.” B00giePop

And lastly, one more IGN user tries to point something out. We have edited the capitalization to make it readable.

In Killswitch – You play a lone soldier in full military gear in a hostile country, trying to do what exactly? You have guns, a cover system, and people to shoot at

In Gears of War 1 and 2 – Monsters from inside the core of the planet (who gives a f*ck?) decide they want to run the entire f*ckin thing, and they have weapons that work like regular human controlled weapons – see ‘turret, sniper rifle, semi-automatic rifle, revolver, grenades etc’ – not to mention body armor – You have guns, a cover system and monsters to shoot at

In Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune – You play a guy after a lost treasure who thinks he’s related to Sir Frances Drake. You have guns, a cover system and people to shoot at

Now in 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand – You play a rapper trying to get a crystal skull stolen from him, owed to him as payment for a show he did – You have guns, a cover system and people to shoot at!

So if in all these games – You have guns, a cover system, and people to shoot – what exactly makes this ‘50 Cent’ game suck/horrible/bullshit?

Bitch all you want – great gameplay is great gameplay – regardless of the character you play as or the story – I mean, if we’re going to talk about horrible stories – let’s talk about all those games where people are at war with aliens/zombies/machines etc. cause those are all great plausible stories. ” yohanne
