Guitar Hero Robot Rocks ‘Cult of Personality’

The Cythbot is an impressive work of technological synergy. Cyth Systems, a company focused on developing automated systems including machine vision systems, created this video of their little invention playing Living Colours’ “Cult of Personality” from Guitar Hero III as a demonstration of their company’s abilities to automate tasks through their vision technology.

What the Cythbot essentially does is read the notes coming down the screen by monitoring the light intensity of the pixels instead of the color of the notes.

Ivan Gagne, systems engineer with Cyth Systems had this to say about how it works.

“If that light intensity value exceeds a predetermined threshold we know we need to hold down that key and actuate the strum bar after a predetermined delay, while the note travels down the screen to the bottom play line.”

It’s not a perfect system, though, so you can beat it. The Cythbot generally scores within the 75 to 80 percent range, though it can reach an accuracy of 98 percent.
