Metacritic Fanboys: Grow Up!

If you haven’t heard, Sony and Microsoft fanboys have abused and consequently destroyed the user review system on a few hit games featured on Metacritic, a site that aggregates product reviews from dozens of press outlets including our own Gamer 2.0. Earlier this week, Microsoft fanboys swarmed Metacritic and lowered the user review score for LittleBigPlanet, the smash hit PS3 game, to a very undeserving 6.2.

Enraged Sony fans have now descended on Microsoft’s huge holiday hits including Gears of War 2 (user rating: 2.6) and Fable II (user rating: 6.7).

PS3 fanboys will say they had every right in the world because the 360 ‘boys struck first. But what will likely happen is that 360 fanboys will rape and pillage Killzone 2. Oh wait, it appears that’s starting to happen with its current user review score of 6.2.

How predictable.

TO ALL PS3 AND 360 FANBOYS: Grow up and stop acting like children. I’ve been a part of the online gaming community for nearly 10 years. I’ve seen the ugliest of the ugly fanboy arguments, and I still, to this day, remember how a member named Alex Watchtower blazed new trails for all fanboys back on the old GameSpot forums.

These console allegiances are a mockery to what we all should believe in and stand for: that games are one of the most innovative forms of entertainment, and such thrilling experiences can be found on any platform from any developer talented enough to design wonderful games like Fable II, LittleBigPlanet, and Gears of War 2.

We should recognize and congratulate any achievements accomplished by any games, regardless of the platforms on which they appear. The inability for mankind to be civil to one another in regards to all kinds of issues from religion to political affiliations to the color of our skin has held us back as a species and contradicts the long held belief that we are “intelligent beings.”

One major difference is that those issues that have divided us in the past are deeply rooted and have originated from centuries of angst and disagreements. What we are arguing about here are videogames. Videogames are supposed to be fun and provide a release and escape from the pressures of our daily lives.

Let’s not ruin something that is supposed to be fun, dammit.

  1. Finally someone has spoken out against these stupid arguments, I have both 360 and PS3 and I enjoy games on both systems. I believe “Fanboyism” stems from jealousy, someone who only owns one system is so stuck up that they cannot believe that something they don’t have is any good. They need to grow up and get a ****ing life. The world doesn’t revolve around Video games they are meant to be a Fun past time as Anthony already said, don’t ruin it!

  2. I think people using metacritic have wisened up to this, and really only take into account the critics reviews (which thankfully cant be flamed or spammed) I think metacritic should stop letting readers “vote” on games that havent come out yet, the scores given by normal people are so obviously fake. what do these fanboys think theyre achieving anyway???

  3. These “fanboys” are the next generation of politicians. With such ardent support for such a silly cause they will fit right in.

  4. Those Xbots who messed up LittleBigPlanet sure have created a mess. Thanks for nothing morons.

Hey, look! It’s one of the trollish fanboys!

  6. @Brian. I think you missed my entire point.

  7. Anthony, you have to understand most of these children are still just that: children. They need some real-life hardships before they start using something I like to call “perspective”.

  8. I good to finnaly see someone stand up to those immature fan boys if ur gonna act like that for all ur life while u play games. Please dont ever call urself a gamer cuz ur not.A true gamer would stick with what ever he or she likes and not bash the other y should we care anyways the only people that have any right to even think about complaining about this stuff is company`s like nintendo, microsoft, and sony since its their money and they gotta fight to keep it and just make more.

  9. How dare you call me a trollish fanboy Jonah. I just stated the facts. This mess was started by Xbots on Metacritic. If they didn’t do it first the war wouldn’t be going on. They’re the troublemakers to begin with. Call a spade a spade at least. I don’t see how calling them out makes me a troll.

  10. Still don’t get it, Brian?

    1. You’re a fanboy
    2. You’re defending the indefensible
    3. Only children whine, “But… but… they started it!”

Even my 10 year old cousins know better than to behave like that.

  11. As the call, so the echo :D

  12. Reason why is great to be a gay ;)
You can say anything (“Wow, do my balls hurt!”) and not worry about what people will think. It was joke ;)

  13. [...] have a deeply routed hatred for fanboys. I hate them on all sides. I’ve already written about this. For the most part, I just avoid all talk of it. But much like the news of Chris Brown beating [...]
